Common Questions
Are these walks suitable for mobility issues?
The harbour wall walk is mostly flat and paved — very accessible. The East Cliff Loop has some gentle slopes but nothing steep. Both have multiple rest points. We recommend wearing supportive footwear and taking your time.
What's the best time to see seals?
Seals are active year-round around Howth. You're most likely to spot them hauled out on rocks during low tide, especially in the morning. Winter months (November–February) tend to have larger gatherings.
How long does each walk take?
The harbour wall walk takes about 1.5–2 hours at a relaxed pace. The East Cliff Loop is roughly 2–2.5 hours depending on how often you stop. You can always shorten either route if needed.
Do I need to bring anything special?
Comfortable walking shoes, a waterproof jacket, and layers are essential. Bring water and snacks if you're out for a couple of hours. Binoculars for seal spotting are optional but nice to have. Check our packing guide for a full checklist.
